Rich got this hops rhizome to sprout - after FOUR months of nothing and being dug up by scavaging chipmunks a few times. He can seriously coax anything to grow!
(Have ya seen the lemongrass he rooted this spring? We already have to re-pot it since it has spread so much since May.)
His next project is growing a Giant Atlantic Pumpkin. They can get up to 1,000 pounds! The six he planted are about to flower any day now. His goal is to grow one huge one and float it over the locks and/or Niagara Falls. Main adversary: Turns out grazing deer like tender pumpkin leaves and flowers, too. We'll see who gets the upper hand!
